No wonder I identify with the potter and the clay imagery of God’s relationship with us – our God stretches and molds us (often to a point of severe discomfort) in ways that are unimaginable. And, oh my, have I been stretched since May 2009 when I felt the call to seminary and to walk alongside God’s people in a radically different way as I moved from marketing products to full time ministry.
For the past 20 years I worked in Marketing for a manufacturer of prison locks and controls. The amazing journey to seminary is certainly not what I would have expected as I completed my BBA degree in 2006, long after starting college in the 1970’s with the aim of a degree in journalism. How life can change! In 2009, as I sat in front of my computer, I was led to the website for Luther Seminary and entered the Masters of Divinity Distributed Learning program.
In May 2015 I graduated and received the call to Holy Cross Lutheran Church the following month. In July my husband Eric and I packed up and moved from San Antonio, Texas. Interestingly, I grew up on Highway 77 in south Texas and now am living just up the road, although the climate is a wee bit different.
My husband, Eric, is retired from both the Air Force, a member of the Air Force Band, and also from Alamo Area Council of Governments. We enjoy discovering nature and places we have never been – by air, car or motorcycle. I enjoy beautiful writing by authors like Barbara Brown Taylor, Frederich Buechner and Marilyn Robinson.
